I've just been out for dinner and I am stuffed. Like, I'm at least twice the size I used to be.
Anyway...
Last night I went to see the film Eddie the Eagle. I didn't really want to see it, but my friend could only go later on and it was either that or the Batman/Superman movie. It wasn't until we were sitting in the screen that I doubted my decision to go see the movie about the famous ski jumper. I didn't really want to see that or the superhero movie, I wanted to go see Zootropolis, but we couldn't make the last showing.
Turns out, I shouldn't have worried. The film was amazing. I hardly stopped smiling the whole way through. I loved Taron Egerton in Kingsman: The Secret Service and this film only made me love him more. As far as I could tell, he was amazing at portraying Eddie Edwards.
It was so easy to smile and laugh through the whole thing. Yes, you're laughing at Eddie, but you're supposed to, and it's in a good way. Like, for example, when he decides to move to Germany to pursue ski jumping and a conversation sort of like this happens.
Eddie: mum, have you seen my camping bag?
Mum: it's in the cupboard. Are you going camping?
Eddie: no, I'm moving to Germany.
Oh, okay then, see you later! It wasn't exactly like that but you get the picture. He's just so determined! I was constantly wanting to scream 'no' at him every time he went onto bigger jumps because I just saw him falling and hurting himself. He just didn't seem to have any awareness of his own safety. He landed the 40m jump once and went straight onto the 70m! Like... Calm down!
I loved it. Every scene with Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman was fun to watch. When Jackman first appeared they don't show his face straight away, but it was obvious it was his entrance. I turned to my friend and said 'give you a tenner if you can guess who that is' and she laughed because it was like, here he comes, this is him.
The number of crashes they showed too! Oh my goodness I cringed away from every one and hid behind my hands and everything! It looks terrifying! There's a moment (quite a big spoiler here but not really and it's not as if I haven't already ruined things before) when Eddie does the 70m and he's flying through the air. In the moment that it becomes obvious he's not going to land, the cinema was silent. It was so quiet and all you heard was me whisper 'oh no' and then he fell and ended up in hospital. My friend did laugh at me then. But you couldn't help but love him and I didn't want him to get hurt. I just felt so absorbed in the story and you felt Eddie's joy, disappointment and determination. I really wanted him to succeed and was annoyed when he didn't.
Summary? Go see it. It's so, so, so, so good! Just everything about it was brilliant. Although Jackman's character was fictional, I really loved the relationship between him and Eddie. I like that they did that instead of having a bunch of different people give Eddie advice without one constant person with him, like what I think happened in real life.
Such a good movie! Highly recommend it!
(Just added that picture of Taron Egerton because... you know... he's absolutely stunning and I might think he's super hot... just saying).
Bye-bye!
