The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon #3

Hullooooooo!

Part 3 of my Spyro walkthroughs! I'm starting to love doing these. It's such a fun way to waste time.

I love this level because it is so pretty! It's such a lovely level and I can't help but take my time and glide around a little bit. There's also quite a lot of things to find, including a heck of a lot of blue gems. So, I better get started...

This level will haaaaave:

19 Blue gems
3 Red gems
3 Green gems
4 Chests of Armour
1 Elite Enemy

This level starts in the Cheetah Village with Spyro and Cynder helping the Cheetahs fight off a bunch of flying Grublins which have set their village on fire. Now, if you're careful enough, you can unlock one of the bonus galleries. This is where I try to get 150 hits to unlock the... allies? I think it's the allies gallery. To do it, just shoot the Grublins a couple of times with Cynder's poison and it should spread through them. Then stand back and don't attack and your hits will slowly build. You might not get it first time, but there's plenty of opportunities as a lot of Grublins appear at this point. And if you can't do it at all, don't worry, there's a lot of other opportunities in the game to do it.

A cutscene will come up after the first few sets of Grublins are gone. It shows what Sparx believes to be dragons. These lizard-like things are actually quite easy to defeat with Spyro's ice breath. Shoot them with that and they'll freeze up. Then it just takes a few hits to kill them. Keep fighting off the lizard-dragons and flying Grublins until they're gone and it should cut to a video with the Cheetah's talking about Meadow going missing. If it doesn't, walk towards the save point at the top of the village and it will start. When the video is finished you can save. Next to the save point, Hunter is tied up. Behind him is a ledge that leads out onto the valley.

Now comes the fun and pretty part. Jump down to the right from this ledge and follow the outside of the fence and you'll find the first blue gem. From here, you can either follow the story first and collect all the gems and things later, or the opposite. I like to collect the gems first, so we're going to ditch Meadow just now and come back for him later. If you want to do the story first, I start doing it with the paragraph that starts 'story time!'. There's a few things that I will have already done that you won't have, like knock down the tree bridge, but just do it along the way.

This is just my preference, but I suggest that you fly everywhere here. It's much better than running around on the floor and you can see everything from the air. Some of you might be thinking 'but who cares? It's just a game. I just want to know where the gems and things are' but I would say that they didn't take time making such a beautiful level for it to be ignored. Some guy had to sit and design this whole thing and I'm appreciating his work. So there. Right, I'll get on with the game now.

Follow the river upstream towards the waterfall. Behind the big tree on the left is a red gem. As you pass the mini volcano a few Grublins might appear. There's a couple of these little patches around the level. You don't have to defeat them, but if you want to feel free. Keep flying towards the waterfall and behind a group of trees on the left is a blue gem. Beside the waterfall there's some vines to climb up. At the top of these you'll find another blue gem and a armour chest. Behind this waterfall is where Meadow is. Like I said before, I'm ignoring him just now, but you can go through if you want to. There's a bunch of enemies to defeat which I'll mention later on.

Okay, I'm going to use the river a lot to describe what I'm doing. If you follow it downstream you'll meet a section where it splits both ways around an island. Follow the right path first and keep going until you reach the big rock on the right. At the bottom of this, beside a little ledge, is a blue gem. From there, you should see another waterfall. To the right of this, in front of a group of trees, is another blue gem. Now, walk towards the waterfall. Jump up onto the ledge and there will be a mark on the wall like it has been scraped. You can run along this by jumping towards it and holding circle. At the other side you'll find vines to climb up that will take you behind the waterfall and back here is another chest of armour. Go back to the big rock and behind it there's a ledge you can jump up on. From here you'll be able to jump up onto the big rock and there's a blue gem.

There's another rock that you'll see. You can fly down to this and collect another blue gem and a green gem. Keep following the river and on the right there's a sort of wind turbine poking up through the trees. This is where the orbs are kept that you'll need later on. It's sort of hidden away in the trees a little bit. Opposite this storage room is a blue gem. On the river there is a little box thing that controls the rods across the river. Turn this wheel to move them so you don't have to do it later on. There's also another blue gem on a ledge next to this. Run up this side of the river and on the right there will be another blue gem hidden away in the trees. Fly along the path and you'll eventually come to some flying Grublins that, again, you don't have to defeat. Past them is a blue gem.

Okay, jump across to the other side of the river and we'll do this side now. Follow the river down  until it gets to the corner. Here there will be a big rock on the right. There's a little path beside this and up it on a ledge beside the mana gem is a blue gem. Also in the trees here, to the left of the mana gem, is another blue gem. Around the corner is a third waterfall. Beside this there's two blue gems. Push the tree over to make a bridge across the river so you don't have to do it later. Follow the river around the corner and on the right you'll eventually find a blue gem against a cliff wall.

Right, that's almost all there is around the valley. On the opposite side of the river from that blue gem you might be able to see another wind turbine. These sort of mark the important spots on this map. This one is for the Elite Enemy of this level. Fly over and there will be vines on the wall and another scrape to run across to get to the level the enemy is on. Mine has a helmet for Spyro's electric breath, but I think this changes each time. If you leave and come back, I'm sure he appears with a different helmet and he'll also have a full life bar. So try not to fall off the side. First though, there's a ledge at the back of the area with a mana gem. To the left of this, across a hole in the ground, there's a red gem. There's also a blue gem where the enemy is but I always wait until after he's gone to get that.

From the ledge where the mana gem is Spyro can hit him with his electric breath. It's easy to stand there and just zap him for ages after his helmet is gone and keep topping up your mana. I normally do this, but I just tried there the now to hit him while I was doing it and I died so I'm going to try other methods until I find one that works. Now he has a red helmet for Cynder's fear. Ugh, I hate this guy. He's really hard to defeat and I can't really find a way that works. I found a way! Okay, so use Cynder's shadow breath to get him in the air. Then jump up and grab him with circle and, because he's a bigger enemy, the only thing you can do is repeatedly press square. Keep doing this and he'll eventually die, but try not to let him hit you. There! Now we can move on. You can go back to the Cheetah Village to save if you want.

Story time! Go back to the first waterfall and fly through it to the cave. Follow the path around and you'll come out into a cavern. Walk towards Meadow and it will be revealed that it's a trap! Oh no! The guy that appears looks a lot like the Elite Enemy, but he is no where near as hard to defeat. Zap him with Spyro's electricity and he'll drop his axe. It's then safe to hit him. When he's gone a bunch of flying Grublins will appear and a few more Axemen. There's loads to fight off, so keep doing what you've done before and eventually they'll stop coming. I love it when you use Spyro's electric breath and if you hit them at just the right time, when they're about one hit from dying, the electricity kills them straight away and there's, like, a bang and they just disappear. It's really cool. Anyway, when they're gone a cutscene will start with Meadow. After that an armour chest appears. Then you can leave the cave.

The Hermit's passageway is beside the waterfall that is next to the tree you knocked over to make a bridge. Opposite the opening is a wall with vines. To the left of this is a cave. Follow this right around and at the end you'll find a red gem. Go back and the cave splits two ways. On the left you'll find a blue gem and also the way out. Go back to the vines on the wall and  jumps along them until you get to a ledge. Jump along these ledges and you'll get to a scrape to run along. At the end of this one press cross to get across to the opposite ledge. Knock over the tree, jump along the vines to the ledge, jump across to the opposite ledge and jump down to the area below. Here, you'll have to fight a bunch of skeletal Apes. I find the best way is to use Cynder's shadow breath. You can also grab them and tap cross, square or triangle. It doesn't really matter. Loads of them appear so it takes a while.

When there gone a cutscene will start. After it get the blue gem. There's also a green gem up the vines on the wall beside it. At the top run along the wall to the ledge. Opposite this there's a ledge with vines to get to the top. I would run along the wall to the Hermit's cave to get the chest of armour before saving. Fly along the river back to the passageway that leads to the valley. Find the storage room that you were at before. The wind turbine is there to mark it's spot and also one of the two sets of river blocker things. Take one orb just now. Go straight when you come out of the room towards the waterfall. I suggest walking at this point as the orb weighs you down and once you fall off the edge to fly above the river there's only certain spots that let you back on the ground. Pass the waterfall to the big rock and behind this there's a small ledge with vines on the wall beside it. Follow these up the wall and to the right to the ledge. Here, the vines are above your head. Just double jump and press circle to grab onto them. At the end there's the pad to put the orb down which opens the door to the green gem.

Go back to the storage room and collect another two orbs. This time, do jump down to the river. Follow it to the right where it meets the main one then go left. On the right you'll find a ramp that leads up to the ground. You'll need to do one dragon at a time because the one you aren't playing as can't get up on their own. Get one up then drop their orb as they'll fall back down when you swap back to the other dragon. Once you've got the second dragon up, wait until the first is back beside you before changing to them. Then you can pick up the orb you dropped. Run along the edge of the river and cross the tree bridge. Keep going into a group of trees until you hit the wall then go right. Here, there's vines on the back wall. Again, you'll need to do one dragon at a time but you don't have to drop the orb once you've got the first dragon over. Here, beside the save point, is where you drop the orbs to release the raft. Have one dragon on the raft using circle to grab it and swap to the other to pull it by flying up the river.

You'll be stopped by the second lot of the things used to block the river. Jump off the raft and head over to fight the Axemen and flying Grublins that have appeared. A few lots of them appear before you can get rid of the river blocks and continue up the river with the raft to Meadow's cave.

And that's it! There will be a cutscene with the lads from the Cheetah Village but that's basically the end of the level. If you chose to do the story first, this would be when you'd go back and get the gems and things that I got first. The level is over but you still get a chance to run and fly around if you're bored and feel like wasting some time. If you're ready to move on to the next part then save at the save point beside you and then go talk to Hunter who's waiting to move on to Warfang with you.

This has been a really long post... but there's lots to do and collect in this level. The next level takes you to the war that's happening. I just watched the opening cutscene and have to roll my eyes because a building falls over and Hunter tells Spyro and Cynder that they can't get through even though they are dragons and they can fly over it. Anyway, I'll be making a walkthrough for that level at a later date.

Hope you enjoyed this!

Bye-bye!
